Setting Out

In the beauty of an illusory reality we drift further and further from the truth, caught between the same old extremes — only wise thoughts can break through them. Where do we find them? In the television's glow, in the giant inches of its screen? One goes to the pharmacist with a prescription, another searches for some hidden corner to sit and contemplate his world in peace, hiding his eyes from the chaos outside. We long for something like divine tenderness and a little less foul-smelling pathos. Play on, you drumming rains, water over my taut nerves, so the lying thoughts will leave me, the ones poisoning the mind with fables. Everyday, familiar feelings, and the wishes that trail after them, endless and indecent — I can't bear to hear your moaning anymore! Miles of untrodden paths lie ahead… and here I am, still at my own front door. All my doubts have burst like little balloons — and once again, it's time to set out on the road…
