Poems from a Stool

Wings

Oh, how I want your soul to strip down bare And soar with me up high into the clouds. While I was cleaning my wings, you vanished somewhere, I can't see you at all, not even from above. I flew alone, I searched — all in vain, I'd circle the whole globe like this. But my wings have no strength, the sun has gone out. Alas, I'll never find the cherished way back home. And wandering in the dark among the clouds, Hope lit the way like a searchlight. Flipping frames in my head like filmstrips, So as not to fall asleep up in the sky. So I would glide as long as my wings carry me, As long as the heart in my chest can sing. I beg, harder than people beg for blessing, To see you — and to die in peace.
