Poems from a Stool

If You Haven't Loved, You Haven't Lived

If you haven't loved — you haven't lived. You haven't found inside another soul Its secret, undiscovered lands. So what return are you counting on? You may say: that's not my thing. You don't know what two can do: Take the world's peaks with ease, Find the hidden sense of being. You'll fix the flaws in how you're living — In someone else you'll see your own reflection. And you'll become someone's mirror too. And see a crowd of cheats in it. You'll gather a heap of experience. You'll use it like a magnifying glass. You get more back when you give — You come to know your own true face. That someone gives you endless joy. Your other half on the Milky Way. Only with her are you made whole — That's what eternal joy is. Two souls float in the boat of life, Through us the next one comes into the world. So don't waste the Maker's labor — Cherish it: it's a real miracle.
