They Break Into My Mind

They break into my mind. My brains are bursting apart. Thoughts, as if all at once, Not a chink of light between. No room to fit a needle. Like the Great Wall of China. I wait for them to fall silent. For the silence to set in. And after it — indifference. Let bombs go off beyond my skin. I'm gone. Now there's no self. The self's a blood clot of the spirit. It holds on tight, as best it can. Like a brake shoe. Like reins pulled taut. By the folds of the brain. An insistent call from the depths. With sound, with the smell of forests. A beast is creeping. A meter, a meter.. Its jaws bolted shut. It draws air steadily through its nose. Waits desperately to pounce. Without doubts, without questions. With an even pulse at the temples. The beast fell asleep, forgetting the fight. The soul took its place. A prayer filled the forest, Pouring out unhurried. After this wild shake-up The thoughts flew far away. And calmly, without fear, I greet this night.
