Leafing through my digital notebook

Leafing through my digital notebook, I realized how much had settled there. How many sparks a neural intellect Had deftly given shape and colour. As if in chalk it traced the outlines Of my words, so that later, years on, The scars of cuts that had long healed I'd study, grasping who you are. Who were you? Did you fall headlong? And rising, did you curse injustice? Was it incense or just stench You gave off, once in everyone's bad books… Rising from your knees, did your chin shoot up To the heavens, right into the ranks of holy Joes. And like a cook over a heap of frying pans, Did you roast them all like a handful of spuds. Having tried out in the epistolary genre A mix of vulgar stuff and roaring obscenity, May my almighty Padre forgive me, I stepped out onto the road in silence. The road is long, but it's sure worth it, So that, having walked it, you look back — Reset everything to factory settings And not miss yourself along the way.
