The World of Space

His knowledge of the outer world is so paltry, but that doesn't stop him believing all is possible. The borders of the black abyss are almost unknown. It gazes silently, waiting till we feel cramped In the sandbox and the puddle by the three-entrance block of flats. Among the clusters of stars we're racing very fast. But not alone — with a silent silver girlfriend. Now like a scythe, now like a pancake, now sort of half a circle. Sometimes she comes out at night like a blood-red eye. Or hides the Sun from us behind her cold back. And so, like specks of dust, spinning like a top, We strive to avoid meeting other dust. As if caught with our neighbours in an invisible net, And someone silently waits till we tire and give up out of helplessness. One breath of the universe lasts hundreds of millions of years. Another million on, maybe someone will see the trail Left in the bottomless dark by a shining pair, Until they kiss in the night, scalding the neighbours with mighty steam. And kilobytes of memory of you, my planetary brethren, Will set off to wander unhurriedly through cosmic expanses. And the prodigal sons, back in their parent's embrace, Will vie with each other to tell how fine that speck of dust was.
