Poems from a Stool · 2024

You're so wonderful lying on my chest

You're so wonderful lying on my chest. Palms folded like a little boat beneath your soft cheek. God forbid I break your rest! I gazed, and in my head the lines came softly, verse by verse. You're my music and my favorite instrument. Your figure's lovely as a Spanish guitar. Through the glass the moon lit up your body's silhouette. The night burned slowly down like a Cuban cigar. I played a symphony of soul, and the body's serenades caressed the skin the way fingers caress strings. Singing cicadas accompanied the coming of spring. Everything around spoke of happiness and love.
